The rules of the competition were very clear: the participants had to try to “crack” the security of the Samsung Galaxy S22. updated to Android 13 and installed with all security updates. Overall, the device was reportedly hacked four times over the four days of the event. The fastest attempt of all succeeded on the fourth day.

This was recently achieved by a research team from Pentest Limited. They have, in just 55 secondsBlow up all device security protocols by exploiting a zero-day bug and showing that it works.

And what is a zero-day bug or vulnerability? Without going into too much detail, this is a security hole just discovered and not patched yet. They are dangerous errores because until they are fixed, attackers have free reign to exploit the bug.

For this achievement is the team of Pentest Limited won a prize of $25,000, an insignificant number. Considering that enrutadores, NAS, smart speakers and other devices were injured during the event, it was distributed nearly a million dollars in prizes among all participants.
