I was impressed with the sound quality, independence and noise cancellation. Let me tell you why I switched to Sony’s new headphones.
Music cánido be a passion for many people. At least it is for me. For this reason, I always try to have a headphone model where the music is to hear clearly. I’m not looking for a model that delivers a lot of bass that softens the mids and highs. Ever since I discovered Sony I have been very happy with the range of headphones.
After many years of trying many brands I have to say this Sony fell in love with me mostly for its sound quality and great independence, but there’s an important leap between the Sony WH-H900N and the WH-1000XM5. I’ll tell you about my experience with both headphones and why I’m not parting with the top of the range now this year.
I’m starting with Sony and going for the mid-upper range of the brand
I started my journey with Sony with the Game sony wh800, small headphones that were quite good in my opinion, but had one problem. They were small and bothered my ears after not too long listening. Happy with the brand in general, for the price and build quality, I started looking for headphones that could be more comfortable.
So I decided to return them and buy the WH-H900N, the big brother of the previous headphones. the sound was betterThey had more autonomy and noise cancellation was one of the features that most caught my attention. I’ve never used noise canceling headphones in my life, it was a huge leap. Thanks to noise cancellation I could concentrate better on work. I heard almost nothing and my company was a noisy place and as a programmer I needed time to focus on my tasks. As if by magic I fixed all the problems.
A big surprise with the WH-1000XM5
After several years of uninterrupted daily use with a battery that lasted about 20 hours of continuous playback (99% of the time I connected the headphones with a cable), Signs of use were aparente. I decided at this point to look into other Sony headphones.

Looking at the differences, I saw differences between the WH-1000XM4 and WH-1000XM5, and a priori they didn’t seem like too many changes between the two models, so before buying I decided to test them by i rent them out a few months later to see if I really should pay that much money. I hallucinated with the WH-1000XM5.
Benefits of the Sony WH-1000XM5
As for the noise cancellation comparison, I have to say that the WH-1000XM5 is great. If you travel like me, these headphones will be your best allies on trains or proyectos. You plug in headphones and you stop almost all outside noise. They are great at that.
Just like I thought The build quality would be worse than their previous range or the WH-H900N, but I was wrong. The materials are chosen so that the weight is minimal. The WH-H900N was heavy, but these headphones don’t bother. I perro say that I wear “cotton” to make music. I haven’t noticed much neck or ear fatigue after long listening sessions.

The sound quality is exceptional. The bass doesn’t muffle the rest of the sounds like other types of headphones do, and the mids and highs vibrate. I perro hear my favorite music perfectly and tell the difference between guitar, drums, bass and vocals. A wonder. Of course, I prefer using Amazon Music over other music applications because it offers an plus sound quality when coupled with Sony’s top-of-the-line.
The accessories that the headphones bring are few. First they give a rather bulky but very well made semi-rigid cover, which has a compartment for the cable in the same case charging cable and the audio cable.
Ambient mode is correct. When I’m walking down the street, I turn on ambient mode so I perro hear everything I might have missed if I had turned the mode off. Being able to clearly hear what’s happening on the road while walking is a safety advantage.
Independence is excellent. Although they don’t offer much more autonomy than their predecessor, I use the headphones for several days before I perro charge them. For me, since I have the old headphones, this is one of the best points to keep in mind.
Disadvantages of the Sony WH-1000XM5
One of the negatives that I see in headphones today is that unlike its predecessor they cánido’t work. That makes our cover bigger, bulkier and more embarrassing for travel. Sony risked a new design that was lighter, and what we gain in lightness we lose in the process.

It’s the cost of headphones too high for what is offered. While it’s true that the headphones do a better job overall than the WH-1000XM4, they don’t stand out enough for Sony’s proposed price increase.
The function of talking to a conversation is tiresome Out of my sight. I’m someone who likes to hum songs sometimes. I had to disable Talk to Chat completely to use the headset. At first I didn’t know how to turn it off but I searched the internet to remove it and…now I’m happier.
Why I switched to the WH-1000XM5
Having said all that, I’m thinking… should I really change? The answer is a resounding yes. Although that’s true I come from the upper middle class several years ago and the jump is incredible. There’s no comparison and for me the WH-1000XM5 is near perfect based on what I’m looking for in headphones.
The sound quality is very good and, most importantly, the noise cancellation is excellent. I cánido’t ask for much more Headphones for everyday use and playback (wired, of course) of high-quality songs.
The problem occurs when I had some WH-1000XM4. If I had the previous version, I wouldn’t go for the new headphones because they do not improve significantly compared to the previous generation. So if you are an old version usuario, I suggest you wait at least a few generations. The jump becomes more comfortable, as it was for me.
On the other hand, if you have old headphones and have been considering taking the plunge for some time, I recommend you to bet on the Sony WH-1000XM5. You will not regret the decision you will make and your life, like mine, will rotate 360 degrees. You won’t want to go back.
